Well I’m finally taking my trailer across for the season. The boat will be next. Highway 4 is a beautiful drive . It has breath taking views and a few fun stops on the way.

First off take your time . The highway will be busy. The West Coast of Vancouver Island is world renowned for it’s beautiful beaches, parks, hiking trails and fishing. There will be plenty of other visitors heading the same direction and doing the same things. So be kind to one another.
The trip across highway 4 will take two and a half hours with good traffic and no stops. If you plan on making a few stops it could take four hours or better.
A few stops of interest for ya…
Coombs- A bit of a tourist trap but has some great Mexican food and doughnuts… lol Billy G’s Doughnuts are the second best on the Island (the best being Bigfoot Doughnuts in Courtenay).Taqueria Cantina has great authentic Mexican food also. There are lots of tourist trinkets for sale and a few goats on the roof to see.

As you travel along past Coombs you will see Cameron lake a beautiful spot with a great beach for a fresh water dip.
Past Cameron lake you will hit Cathedral Grove ,this park has some of the oldest trees in BC. Some of the trees in this park are over 800 years old. If you can find parking, you may want to take a look.

After Cathedral Grove will be Port Alberni this your last big town before the true west coast. It has all your major amenities and box stores. If you are planning to purchase groceries get them here the prices will be 30% less than in Ucluelet or Tofino. There is a few food trucks in Clutesi Marina on the west side of town worth checking out.

After Port Alberni the road will have beautiful views with plenty of little spots to pull off and snap a few picks.

Just before you hit Kennedy Lake there will be single lane traffic for two kilometers because of construction.

Then you hit Ucluelet…Now it’s time for the real fun to begin!!!
