Rugged waves pound the Ucluelet coastline on stormy winter days.

Ucluelet (pronounced you-clue-let) comes from Yuułuʔił which means “people of the safe harbour” in the indigenous Nuu-chah-nulth language and is the homeland of the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ. Boats have weathered storms in its protected waters for thousands of years. Ucluelet is a community that boasts a rich fishing history that grew from it’s ideal position between calm harbours and the open Pacific Ocean. Called Ukee (You-key) by locals, the peninsula is surrounded by rugged coastline, sublime temperate rainforest, and incredible beaches – all nestled along the Wild Pacific Trail.

Here you’ll find unpolished authenticity: people are salt-of-the-earth types. Alongside the world-class fishing you can enjoy wildlife viewing, storm watching, hiking, biking, kayaking, surfing and more. In town you’ll find a range of places to stop for food and drink, cozy B&Bs and camping, and funky shops filled with souvenirs.
